May. 28th, 2021 04:42 amShe'd rather write love poems, but they never come to life.
Sapha is gifted, or so her husband calls it. She has the ability to write and make whatever material things she describes in words come to life, foodstuffs, fabrics, even precious metals with a little work. Her husband, Abdil, is a priest at the local temple and when he heard of her powers, almost a decade ago when she was only fifteen, he persuaded her parents to have her marry him, so that she would serve the All-Father with her gifts. Since then, his temple has grown to become the richest, most prominent of the All-Father's houses in all of the country. When people want their wishes to come true, they travel there, because Sapha can write their dreams to life, no matter what they themselves have at their disposal. It isn't a free service, but it costs less to make her magic forth silks and gold than to procure actual silks and gold themselves.
Sometimes, she writes poems about birds in cages with their little, gilded doors opening, but nothing ever changes. She wakes up to another day at the All-Father's and Abdil's service.

WORLD INFO:
Set in a heavily steampunk-inspired fantasy setting, the epicenter of this story is Temple City of the country, Valleyway. The country functions under Victorian-esque rules and norms. As such, work and home is strictly divided between the genders, so that men dominate the job market and women are expected to function as wives, mothers and daughters at home. In Valleyway, only men are born as magic wielders in one of five categories (Levitators who can move and manipulate physical objects with their mind, Seers who can exercise some mind control, read Auras or sense if people are lying, Articulators who can conjure up things with words as well as send magical messages and Alchemists who can turn things into precious metals, most notably gold through touch or, finally, as Priests who can wield all four types of magic at once).
